 Research Summary

My research interest focuses on school reform. In that area‚ a number of research projects have been finished while some others are being carried out‚ some works have been published‚ a set of comprehensive academic thoughts is taking shape and has been put into practice in dozens of experimental schools ( from elementary school to high school). All those efforts can be summarized into the following 4 areas.

1. School culture building. I have specified 3 approaches in this area: speculative reasoning‚ narrating of the historical stories‚ and emerging through active school reform. Although all the three approaches should be combined‚ more attention should be put on the third because it can merge into the school reform. In this way‚ the process of culture building is the school members’ creation‚ reflection and renovation of their cultural works (such as the administrative rules‚ the curriculum program‚ teaching plan‚ activity scheme and research report).

2. The principal’s leadership style. Taking advantage of association with hundreds of principles‚ I have discerned their school-running thoughts‚ their possible leadership style in different schools or in different stages‚ and the possible ways of school development.

3. The teacher team building. While participating in the education innovation in dozens of schools‚ I have distinguished 3 kinds of teacher teams: researching team‚ adapting team and irresponsible team. By this way‚ we can find the mechanism of the individual and team’s development and design the corresponding projects to promote the teachers’ development.

4. The student community building. On the basis of 10 years of successive practical research‚ I have systematically sorted out the theories and practices in classroom community building‚ and put forward new theories and systematic practical methods in this area. Now I begin to pay more attention to the student club‚ so as to extend my research into the broader area‚ i.e. student community building in a school.

As I have mentioned above‚ I have understood and researched on Chinese school reform to some extent. If I have the opportunity to study American schools‚ I can carry out more comparative research in the relevant theories and methods in educational reform.
