Prof. Dr. Zhang Jisheng is mainly engaged in theoretical linguistic study‚ focusing on phonology. He has made substantial contributions to the research of Chinese phonology through his application of generative phonology to analysis of the phonological rules and phonological structure of the Chinese (including dialects) . In recent years‚ he has accomplished two provincial research projects on linguistics and has more than 30 pieces of academic publications. Prof Zhang supervises PhD students in theoretical linguistics‚ including phonology and morphophonology‚ with a particular interest in the phonology of Chinese dialects.
