Biography

 

En-Qing Gao is a professor at Shanghai Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry and Chemical Processes (GCCP), where he has worked for 14 years. He has been devoted to studies in coordination chemistry for two decades and published more than 200 papers, mainly involving design and synthesis (crystal engineering), structural analysis, magnetic analysis, and catalytic study of coordination compounds, especially coordination polymers or metal-organic frameworks. He has presided 7 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) and a "Cai Yuanpei" Sino-French exchange program, and he was supported by the New Century Talent Project of the Education Ministry and Shanghai "Shuguang" Project. Under his guidance, more than 30 students earned master's and doctoral degrees, and three doctors were awarded "Excellent Achievements of Postgraduates in Shanghai".

 

Reasearch Interest

  • Molecular magnetic materials (MMMs). The aims are to uncover magnetostructural correlations in metal coordination compounds and to find new MMMs and multifunctional materials. The major recent progress is the successful construction of magnetic coordination polymers and single-chain magnets with simultaneous azide and carboxylate bridges. A current project supported by NSFC is to incorporate judiciously designed voilogen-based photochromic ligands into magnetic systems, which can open a new field of photomagnetism.

  • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The research involves the design, synthesis, structural analysis and porosity-related properties/applications of MOFs. The major progress includes the construction of zeolitic MOFs with bis-chelating ligands and catalytic studies with MOFs. A current project is devoted to the post-synthetic modification of MOFs for catalytic studies.
