Jianhua Xu‚ born in Gansu province on April 27‚ 1965‚ now is a Professor of Geography and the Director of The Research Centre for East-West Cooperation in China‚ East China Normal University.
      In January of 1989 as an assistant he joined the faculty of Geography Department of Lanzhou University until in May of 1990. He was appointed as an instructor in June of 1990 and an associate professor in July of 1992. From November 1996 to March 2000 he worked in Geography Department of Lanzhou University as a professor. He has been working as a professor in East China Normal University since March 2000.
      His research interest includes Geocomputation‚ GIS and Remote Sensing Applications‚ especially in the field of Physical Geography and Ecological Economics. He has hosted more than 30 research projects which from National Natural Science Fund of China‚ National Social Science Fund of China‚ as well as from the support of provinces and  ministries of China.
      He have been published 12 books‚ such as  Geographical Systems Analysis‚ Agricultural Ecologic Economic Systems Analysis‚ Human ecological system‚ The Regional Development Theories and Research Methods‚ The Strategic Option for Dispelling Poverty‚ Remote Sensing Analysis and GIS‚ Mathematical Methods in Contemporary Geography (First &Second edition)‚ Geographical Modelling Methods‚ Quantitative Geography‚ and The Disadvantages and Advantages of Later Comer and Innovative Countermeasures for the Development of Western China.

In September of 1982 he enrolled himself in Mathematics Department of Lanzhou University and got his Bachelor´s Degree of Science in July of 1986. Then he made the further study in Geography Department‚ majoring in Regional Development‚ and got his Master´s Degree of Science in December of 1988.
