LIU Qing is professor in the Department of History and Research Fellow in the Institute for Modern Chinese Thought and Culture at East China Normal University (Shanghai‚ China).
He received the M.A. and Ph.D degrees in Political Science from Marquette University and the University of Minnesota respectively.
Before joining the faculty of ECNU in July 2003‚ he had worked as Research Associate in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for three years.
His main research interests lie in intellectual history and political theory.
In recent years his publications include: The Undetermined Moment: Modernity and Western Thought (in Chinese)‚ and several editing volumes‚ translations and articles on issues of modernity‚ liberalism‚ citizenship‚ public sphere and cotemporary intellectual debates in China.
LIU Qing has received fellowships from the MacArthur Foundation (1994-95)‚ Social Science Research Council (Summer 1996) and the Fulbright Scholar Program (2007-08).
